چکیده

This work is devoted to the analysis of the quantum drift-diffusion model derived by Degond et al in [6]. The model is obtained as the diffusive limit of the quantum Liouville-BGK equation, where the collision term is defined after a local quantum statistical equilibrium. The corner stone of the model is the closure relation between the density and the current, which is nonlinear and nonlocal, and is the main source of the mathematical difficulties. The question of the existence of solutions has been open since the derivation of the model, and we provide here a first result in a one-dimensional periodic setting. The proof is based on an approximation argument, and exploits some properties of the minimizers of an appropriate quantum free energy. We investigate as well the long time behavior, and show that the solutions converge exponentially fast to the equilibrium. This is done by deriving a non-commutative logarithmic Sobolev inequality for the local quantum statistical equilibrium.

Diffusive transport of partially quantized particles: existence, uniqueness and long time behaviour

A selfconsistent model for charged particles, accounting for quantum confinement, diffusive transport and electrostatic interaction is considered. The electrostatic potential is a solution of a three dimensional Poisson equation with the particle density as the source term. This density is the product of a two dimensional surface density and that of a one dimensional mixed quantum state. The su...

Convergence to equilibrium in Wasserstein distance for Fokker-Planck equations

We describe conditions on non-gradient drift diffusion Fokker-Planck equations for its solutions to converge to equilibrium with a uniform exponential rate in Wasserstein distance. This asymptotic behaviour is related to a functional inequality, which links the distance with its dissipation and ensures a spectral gap in Wasserstein distance. We give practical criteria for this inequality and co...

MODELLING NONLOCAL PROCESSES IN SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES WITH EXPONENTIAL DIFFERENCE SCHEMES Part 1: Relaxation Time Approximations

In this paper we deal with nonlocal quasi-hydrodynamic mathematical models describing non-equilibrium physical processes in semiconductor devices. These processes cannot be adequately described with conventional drift-diiusion models. The primary numerical diiculty arises in the energy balance equation. Details of the discretisa-tion for the continuity equations will be described along with a t...

Asymptotic behavior of a system of two difference equations of exponential form

In this paper, we study the boundedness and persistence of the solutions, the global stability of the unique positive equilibrium point and the rate of convergence of a solution that converges to the equilibrium $E=(bar{x}, bar{y})$ of the system of two difference equations of exponential form: begin{equation*} x_{n+1}=dfrac{a+e^{-(bx_n+cy_n)}}{d+bx_n+cy_n}, y_{n+1}=dfrac{a+e^{-(by_n+cx_n)}}{d+...

We study a model of two interacting Hamiltonian particles subject to a common potential in contact with two Langevin heat reservoirs: one at finite and one at infinite temperature. This is a toy model for ‘extreme’ non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. We provide a full picture of the long-time behaviour of such a system, including the existence / non-existence of a non-equilibrium steady stat...
